Separate General from 4th edition

Postby Deovalente on Mon Dec 22, 2008 2:30 pm

I feel strongly about this.
We need to separate the general discussion from the 4th edition discussion forum.
4th edition is specific enough to be almost a separate setting and general discussion crosses multiple settings and is an over all view of things, questions, comments, mechanics, business news.

If I throw a question out there, I don't think I'm going to get feedback from everyone, because if they're anti-4E people, they won't go to that forum.

I don't know whether to support Deovalente or not. I believe that this is a good group because of our diversity - thus I want to say, YES, let there be a solely 4ed forum. Taking away the 4ed association with the 3ed forum might also signal the 3ed people to keep talking - as those forums are basically dead at the moment.

The reason not to create a 4ed forum is due the fact that there does not seem to be 4ed people here. Why have one more dead forum?

I don't like 4ed. I have read the 4ed books, so have that as an informed opinion. I don't hate 4ed though. I would actually like to hear people speak in favor of 4ed. Besides simple propaganda statements of blind support for whatever WotC does, I really have heard nothing substantial that was pro-4ed. I thus will place my approval with creating the separate forum.
I am not ashamed of taking the blame for what I say.
Antheel Rules 1.3.1 gaming rules have been printed!

My writing continues, my website needs to return, and there is no telling what else I am up to.

Separate General from 4th edition

Postby Legatus_Legionis on Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:02 am

If there was enough "traffic/replies/posts" on 4ed topics to warrant it having its own forum, then my all means yes.

But other than the initial "Can't wait!" posts, we have had very little in the way of 4ed topics (other than those who decided to go back to an earlier edition).

Then maybe change the name of forum.
make it primarily a general discussion forum,
all editions..

Call the "other editions" (old school editions) for people that want
to talk specifically about older editions.

eh.

This topic might be a bit old to reply to, but I certainly echo Deo's sentiments about the General section.

Also, I think it's a bit unfortunate to find the Pathfinder-topic under "Other RPG's". Pathfinder is basically the future of D&D 3.x, not just another game. And it seems to have a lively future. It may not be the gaming powerhouse backed by WotC's marketing machine, but there's a strong user base for it. If it means anything, a small comic book store that serves as one of only two outlets for tabletop gaming in the region where I work, has Pathfinder on sale while the only D&D products are 3.5 supplements. And this is in Europe, where gaming is very obscure.
